The first small scale LNG terminal in Italy

Depositi Italiani GNL, 51% owned by the PIR Group, 30% by Edison and 19% by Enagás (through the subsidiary Scale Gas), manages the new LNG handling and storage terminal located in the port of Ravenna.

The terminal, operational since October 2021, has a storage capacity of 20,000 cubic meters and a potential annual handling of over 1 million cubic meters of liquid gas, making LNG available in Italy for fueling at least 12,000 trucks and up to 48 ferries per year.

LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) as an alternative fuel to traditional fossil fuels is characterized by strong potential development thanks to the almost total reduction of polluting emissions and a significant reduction of climate-altering ones.

The biggest mediterranean terminal for storage and handling of dry goods

Docks Cereali operates the biggest terminal for storage and handling of bulk dry goods of the Mediterranean area.

The terminal covers an area of 215,000 sqm. The quay, 650 m long with a draft of 9.45 m, has two granty cranes fitted with grabs with a capacity of 750 t/h each, 3 pneumatic towers for cereals and flour with a capacity of 300 t/h each, 1 mechanical tower with capacity of 900 t/h and 3 mobile towers with a capacity of 500 t/h each.

The terminal has about 400,000 tonnes of storage capacity for cereals handled at a rate of 600 t/h during discharging and 300 t/h during loading. The storage facilities include 118 silos, 71 warehouses and large areas for open storage. A fleet of 13 tyred shovels is used for the handling. Rail mode is also available, including weighbridge for railcars.

Docks Cereali has facilities for grinding, mixing and bagging raw materials in bags and big-bags, it is also equipped with a flour sterilisation system, two crushing machines for slice goods or pellets and a plant for fertilizers bagging and packing.

The transfer of Adriatank to PIR terminals

Adriatank began the activity of storage of foodgrade chemical products in 1970.

La Petrolifera Italo Rumena - PIR Group - acquired its control in the early 90s, and in 2012 agreed with Ravenna's town council the closure of the terminal and the transport of some storage tanks to PIR terminal in Porto Corsini. The labor force has been entirely redistributed within the Group.

This video shows the transfer of 17 storage tanks along the 8 km of the Candiano canal which separate Adriatank from PIR Terminal, the transfer took place in 2014 from the end of March to the beginning of April.

The project, one of a kind done so far on this canal, took 11 days to carry out and involved 46 people, 5 local companies, 220 and 400 tonnes mobile cranes and 2 self-propelled hydraulic transporters.

Each tank, weighing between 15 and 75 tonnes, was moved from its foundation to the quay, and from there loaded onboard of a self-propelled pontoon. Each trip through the canal took about an hour, at a speed of 5 knots. In Porto Corsini, the tanks were offloaded onto transporters and from there placed on the new foundations.

Special attention was given to the transfer of tank #17, the biggest, having a diameter and height of 14 mt, weighing 57 tonnes and having a capacity of about 2,100 m3.

With these additional tanks, PIR Terminal in Porto Corsini has now reached a total of 133 tanks, having a combined capacity of about 300.000 m3 making PIR the largest chemical storage hub in Italy.
